Careers at Corpus Christi
At Corpus Christi we aim to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities which will enable pupils to be effective in a variety of adult roles and occupations. Aspects of Careers Education are provided within the fortnightly PSE programme and also permeate the whole curriculum identified by subject departments.
Pupils need to form a knowledge of the post-16 courses and training opportunities available in schools and colleges, and an appreciation of the personal and educational attainments needed for them. To facilitate this, staff from St. David's College and Cardiff and the Vale College (CAVC) visit the school to outline courses and answer questions. Brochures for Saint David’s College and CAVC are available at Year 9 Options Evening and KS4 Parents’ Evenings. All Year 11 form groups receive a group talk by our Careers Adviser to outline the options available to them post Corpus Christi.
Pupils also need information on the whole spectrum of possible occupations, together with entry requirements and associated lifestyles. Pupils therefore research possible occupations using the internet, particularly looking at The Careers Wales Website and UCAS. During other sessions in Year 9 and 10 pupils are encouraged to carry out the Careers Matching Quiz and Buzz Quiz on the Careers Wales Website. This gives them the opportunity to understand their own strengths, areas of improvement and what sort of career or job role maybe of interest to them.
At Corpus Christi we engage fully with Careers Wales. Our Careers Adviser will meet for a Careers Chat with a selection of pupils from Year 9 before their options choices. Following completion of Careers Check in Year 10, selected pupils in Year 11 will receive an individual Careers Chat.
